|This document, the third one of the series «Undoing Knots. Innovating for change», includes the results of a research about the poverty measurement made by the Levy Economics Institute in 2011 with UNDP´s support. The aim of this research is to propose an alternative to the official measurement of income poverty, taking into account the unpaid work. Yet, its significance for attaining a minimum standard of living has not made sufficient inroads in academic and policy discourse. As a result, official poverty estimates still largely ignore the issue.
This policy brief is an important tool for all social and economic policymakers and public official at the time to analyze and measure poverty conditions of households and individuals, including from a gender perspective.
